X compares Angela Bassett’s Black Panther pay with RDJ’s Doctor Doom fee

X (formerly Twitter) is comparing Angela Bassett’s salary for the Black Panther sequel to Robert Downey Jr.’s rumored salary for Avengers: Doomsday. The actor has long been considered one of the primary catalysts behind the initial success of the MCU. Now, he will reportedly get a $200 million fee for playing Doctor Doom in the upcoming Marvel film.

One user wrote, “Angela Bassett was only paid $350,000 for her Oscar-nominated performance in Wakanda Forever, of which most of us can agree she was snubbed. What exactly does RDJ bring to the table that requires over 200x that amount of money?”

Some users jumped to RDJ’s defense, citing his box office draw. Nonetheless, a few expressed their shock at the pay difference, with many also addressing Bassett’s infamous snub at the 2023 Oscars.

One user replied, “ONLY $350K??? THEE ANGELA BASSET WAS ONLY PAID THAT MUCH???” Another user posted, “I’m sorry she was paid how much!?!? I totally agree she was snubbed because her whole aura and performance made me sob.” The individual even claimed they “felt goosebumps.”

Another user posted that Robert Downey Jr. “shouldn’t be getting anywhere near that amount of money” for his Doctor Doom role in Avengers: Doomsday. However, they also added that the actor’s pull with audiences was undeniable. Another user posted that despite the debate online, Angela Bassett deserves a raise.
