Meghan Heffern Interview

Meghan Heffern is currently in three TV shows and a film, and is a rising star in Canada as well as the U.S. She is currently one of the major roles in Showcase’s new comedy series “Almost Heroes,” which also stars Colin Mochrie – the show focuses around two brothers who return their hometown to run the family comic book business.

Heffern was also in the Independent Film Channel horror flick “The Shrine,” which came out in May. It’s a creepy, scary story about a group of young journalists who investigate a cult rumoured to engage in human sacrifice in rural Poland. This fall she’ll also reprise her role as Kate the head cheerleader in the Spike TV series “Blue Mountain State,” which shoots its third season in Canada this summer.

If that weren’t enough Heffern is also working on an original Teletoon series called “Mudpit” as the “Avatart” band leader Sweetie. “Mudpit” is a very cool series about a band that finds success in the virtual award, and the show combines real life with animation.

Here’s what she had to say about the differences in working in television and movies as well as what this single gal looks for in a great mate.

CraveOnline:  Tell us about working on “Almost Heroes.”

Meghan Heffern:  I was nervous when I started working on the show because I’m the only one who doesn’t have an improv background. But the cast is awesome – they were very welcoming.

CraveOnline:  Do you do a lot of ad libing on the set?

Meghan Heffern:  Not a lot because my character is written really well, but I know Ryan (Belleville) and Colin (Mochrie) do a lot of ab libing… but I’m very interested in it.

CraveOnline:  You also worked on the thriller “The Shrine” – do you enjoy acting in movies? How is working on movies different from working on TV?

Meghan Heffern:  TV goes much faster- we shoot two episodes in five days. Comedy and horror are so different but equally difficult. I love doing movies and going slower and developing the relationships with the crew, but I also love TV and being a part of “Almost Heroes.”

CraveOnline:  And we also understand you’ll be on a new Teletoon series…

Meghan Heffern:  It’s a new series starting in the fall about an online band who competes against other online bands and I play the lead singer of The Avatarts. I did two episodes where I was a live-action character and four episodes as just a cartoon. It was great – I could go to work in my PJs.

CraveOnline:  We didn’t know you could sing…

Meghan Heffern:  I don’t… (laughs) they had someone else come in and sing for me, but my cartoon character lip-syncs too.

CraveOnline:  You often get younger roles… how old are you?

Meghan Heffern:  I’m 27 years old. But I always play teenagers.

CraveOnline:  Now we heard that you collect Pyrex? As in the dishes?

Meghan Heffern:  Yes – it’s vintage bakeware.

CraveOnline:  And are you a good cook?

Meghan Heffern:  (Laughs) No, I’m not a baker. I was just looking around at antique stores, spotted one and started doing some research – and I found out it’s a huge thing! There are people who collect it all over the world.

CraveOnline:  Who’s an actor that you’d love to work with?

Meghan Heffern:  l’d love to work with Amy Adams because I think she’s amazing, but I’d also have to say Rachel McAdams because she’s Canadian and pretty awesome.

CraveOnline:  What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

Meghan Heffern:  I ran a half-marathon recently. It was my very first one. Before I started training I couldn’t run at all, so it was quite an accomplishment.

CraveOnline:  Are you single?

Meghan Heffern:  Yep, single.

CraveOnline:  What do you look for in a guy?

Meghan Heffern:  A good sense of humour because I love to laugh.

CraveOnline:  Is the glass half-empty or half-full?

Meghan Heffern:  Half-full – I always try really hard to be optimistic.
