Gamescom 2013: 5 Games We’re Excited to See at Gamescom

With Gamescom 2013 right around the corner, we’re getting excited about all the new footage and information that’s about to drop regarding our most anticipated games of the future. With that being said, here are the 5 games that we’re most looking forward to seeing at the event.

Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar will be heading to Gamescom this year, and are set to open a press-only booth where they will undoubtedly offer a further look at Grand Theft Auto V. Whether or not GTAV will be playable at the event remains to be seen, but with the game so close to its release date, it’s likely that someone will manage to get their hands on it.

At this juncture I feel like we’ve already seen enough of the game’s single-player experience, and I’d rather Rockstar keep a few of their cards close to their chest until the game makes its way onto store shelves next month. However, I would not turn my nose up at extensive gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto Online.

Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 is shaping up rather nicely, and with developers DICE confirming that further multiplayer details will be announced at Gamescom, I’m excited to see what they’ve got in store for us.

While I’ve never been a huge fan of the series, what I’ve seen of Battlefield 4 so far has all but converted me. I’m expecting DICE and EA to deliver big things at Gamescom.

Pokemon X & Y

The 3DS’s first Pokemon game will be playable at Gamescom, with a short demo allowing players to explore Kalos, X & Y‘s brand new region

The Pokemon series has remained largely unchanged over the years, but X & Y looks to give it a long overdue fresh lick of paint, with some gorgeous looking battle animations and a whole new roster of Pokemon to catch. Consider me excited.

Super Mario 3D World

Many viewed Super Mario 3D World as something of a disappointment when it was revealed at this year’s E3, largely because Mazza’s last 3D platforming outings were in the hugely inventive Galaxy series. In truth, nothing Nintendo unveiled could have lived up to fans’ expectations (save for perhaps Super Mario Galaxy 3), but I’m far more excited for 3D World than I have been for a Mario game in a long, long time.

Super Mario 3D World looks to combine the madcap co-op gameplay of the New Super Mario Bros. series with the 3DS’ Super Mario 3D Land, which will inevitably result in a whole heap of fun and potentially the system seller that the Wii U sorely needs.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

The Assassin’s Creed series lost a fair few of its supporters following the glitchy mess that was Assassin’s Creed III, so many are inevitably skeptical about its follow-up, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. However, early showings of the game have been very positive, with its Caribbean setting offering more of the exciting sea-faring action that proved so popular in its predecessor.

While I’m also excited to see more of Ubisoft’s own Watch Dogs at Gamescom, I’ve been waiting for a game that perfectly encapsulates the Pirate’s life for years (minus all the raping, of course). Assassin’s Creed IV could be that game.
