Singer Robin Thicke’s hit track “Blurred Lines” was named Billboard’s Song of the Summer for 2013.
The track led the weekly Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks beginning in June, and it is also the first summer season No. 1 by a lead solo male since 2004. Imagine Dragons’ song “Radioactive” came in second followed by “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk, Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop,” and “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Thicke, who is the son of actor Alan Thicke, a Kirkland Lake, Ontario native, was recently in the spotlight after a steamy performance with former teen star Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards. As an MTV article pointed out, “And during one particular performance – that would be the combo of Miley Cyrus’ twerk-tastic “We Can’t Stop” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” – you actually set a record for most tweets per minute: an astounding 360,000, shattering the previous record holder, Beyoncé’s Super Bowl performance.” Thicke has released a total of five albums, including “Lines” this year, and has collaborated on a number of top-performing albums like “Confessions” by Usher and Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III.”
