The 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards took place this past weekend as part of the annual BreakOut West event, and while a myriad of artists were represented, The Sheepdogs took home two of the biggest prizes of the night.
Winning Rock Recording of the Year from their self-titled release as well as Songwriter of the Year for bandmate Ewan Currie and his track “Feeling Good,” the accolades were doled out at Calgary’s Flames Central. The winners were chosen by six western music industry associations including MusicBC, Alberta Music, SaskMusic, Manitoba Music, Music NWT and Music Yukon.
Wool on Wolves won Album of the Year while English-speaking Jill Barber won Francophone Recording of the year. “It means a lot to me,” the English speaking singer said to Postmedia News. “It was a personal challenge and so the fact that it’s been really well received by francophones and non-Francophones alike means a lot to me. This one really does actually touch me. It’s nice to win awards but this one I have a great sense of accomplishment for the record and this is the icing on the cake for sure.”
