A cutscene from Call of Duty: Ghosts might look eerily familiar to those who played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign, and for good reason. A direct comparison reveals that Infinity Ward has recycled animations and assets to produce an identical scene in the narrative. Everything from the movement and placement of characters to the camera angle is clearly copy and pasted.
See below for the controversial cutscene:
Activision revealed earlier today that Call of Duty: Ghosts has broken $1 billion in revenue after only one day of being on the market. However, reviews—user and journalist alike—have painted a much different picture. Some players are very happy with the additions to the franchise (i.e. character customization, dynamic maps, etc.), while others are growing tired of the redundancy.
Copy and pasting a cutscene isn’t a big deal, but this is Call of Duty we’re talking about. In a way it’s indicative of how much is reused in the franchise. Such a move couldn’t have come at a worse time, either.
The truth is that until consumers prove with their wallets that they aren’t happy with the direction Call of Duty is taking, Activision has no reason to make any drastic changes. With $1 billion already in the bank, it appears this year’s installment won’t be the red alert that some gamers are thinking it will be.
