Let it never be said that Death Grips don’t take risks. Only days before an official physical release arrives for their last record No Love Deep Web, the explosive outfit is once again throwing a middle finger at the music industry by offering, with zero fanfare, their newest full-length album, Government Plates, to download and stream for free (listen in the Soundcloud below).
Death Grips did the same with No Love Deep Web, sharing it for free with fans and getting dropped by their label Epic as a result (understandably). It’s been a peculiar year for the band, which has seen their drummer, the mystifyingly amazing Zach Hill, taking a leave of absence to work on a feature film, and a slew of cancelled or abandoned tour dates and festival appearances.
The band gave a tease of what was to come on Government Plates back in August, when they posted a video and download link for the track “Birds” to Facebook.
