There’s a rumour circulating that Vince McMahon, the billionaire owner of the WWE, is set to buy Premier League football club Newcastle United.
This rumour stems from a conversation a Newcastle “source” had with Winner Sports, with the “source” stating: “Vince McMahon has been sniffing around the club and seems keen on pursuing his interest.
“He sees England as an untapped market for his wrestling empire. He has even indicated he could put on wrestling bouts at St James’s Park.
“Obviously it is very early days but there is hope the fans may get what they want with Ashley leaving. Buying a club like Newcastle would throw him into the spotlight in England which is just what he is looking to do.”
This wild rumour has inevitably led to McMahon and the WWE becoming the top trends in the UK, as Twitter users fall over one another to make jokes about how Remy may carry a steel chair with him out onto the pitch, or how John Cena will be added to the club’s starting line-up.
Of course, this rumour has done the rounds before. McMahon was allegedly set to become the chairman of Newcastle back in 2011, before the club inevitably branded the story as “nonsense”. Unfortunately for Newcastle fans, it seems likely that McMahon’s millions won’t be lining their club’s pockets any time soon.
