Sir Alex Ferguson Attends Oscars and Discusses David Moyes

Former Manchester United manager appears to be enjoying his retirement, taking advantage of the spare time now afforded him by attending the Oscars and having a little chit-chat about his favourite films.

The 72-year-old Scot flew to the US with his wife to be a guest at the 96th annual Academy Awards, and when asked of the reasoning behind his attendance of the ceremony, Ferguson replied: “I’m retired, so why not?”

Speaking of the award winners of the evening, he said: “I thought the awards were correct. I thought the best film was 12 Years a Slave, I thought American Hustle was really good and I really liked Captain Phillips, but it did nae get a nomination.” Ferguson also said that he thought Best Actor winner Matthew McConaughey was “fantastic” in Dallas Buyers Club.

Ferguson also inevitably fielded a few questions regarding his former club, and its much-maligned new manager, saying that he believed Manchester United would “be all right” despite their poor season under the management of the former Everton boss.

“It’s early days and there have been a lot of changes”, Ferguson said. “He needs time. I was there for 27 years, so with a new manager it takes time. But they’ll be OK.”
