March 2014 has concluded, sending off what was a great month for video games. But 2014 is far from over.
April has some big games in-store for gamers of all types. The Elder Scrolls Online brings one of the most beloved RPG franchises to the online space, and Child of Light has some wonderfully creative flavor to share. And, of course, Titanfall finally hits Xbox 360. Assuming it doesn’t get delayed a third time, anyway.
Plan out your month of gaming entertainment and check out our detailed calendar of video game releases below:
April 2014 Video Game Release Calendar
April 1st - Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate & MLB 14: The Show
The month kicks off with releases in two very different genres. Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is a companion title for last year's Batman: Arkham Origins . The biggest difference is it's built in a 2.5D landscape, making it feel different from other Arkham games while still retaining the awesomeness that is Batman.
MLB 14: The Show is this year's installment of what is hands down the best baseball game in the world. The graphics are better than ever before, and if nothing else you'll get updated rosters which makes it a must buy if you're a die-hard fan of the sport.
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate platforms: 3DS, PC, PS3, PS Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360
MLB 14: The Show platforms: PS3, PS Vita, PS4 (May 6th)
April 4th - The Elder Scrolls Online
The release of The Elder Scrolls Online this month marks the first time The Elder Scrolls has ever taken on multiplayer. That in and of itself is huge given the franchise's acclaim and over two decades of history.
The Elder Scrolls Online promises all the qualities you've come to love from games like Oblivion and Skyrim , but you can enjoy the progression and exploration with friends. We hope it's as good as it sounds.
The Elder Scrolls Online platforms: PC, PS4 (June 2014), Xbox One (June 2014)
April 8th - Kinect Sports Rivals, Titanfall (Xbox 360) & Daylight
Kinect Sports Rivals may be the first game to properly demonstrate what the Xbox One's Kinect is capable of. If so, it'll be a great party game for you and your friends.
Titanfall is ready for an arrival on Xbox 360 after over a month of delays. If you still haven't gotten around to playing it and own an Xbox 360, you may want to consider purchasing it. We're still in love with the game , and it'll be receiving both free and paid DLC soon.
Daylight creeped the heck out of me at E3. I can only imagine what the full game is like. We'll find out this month, I suppose.
Kinect Sports Rivals platforms: Xbox One
Titanfall platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360 (April 8th)
Daylight platforms: PC, PS4
April 14th - Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (PS4)
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was a delightful treat when it came out last year for PC. Now, it has aspirations on PS4.
After playing around with a controller on the PC version, I can say with confidence that FFXIV: ARR plays well with a controller. That, in addition to it having full 1080p support, means that if you're an MMO or Final Fantasy fan with a PS4, you should be looking forward to this.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn platforms: PC, PS3, PS4 (April 14th)
April 15th - Conception 2: Children of the Seven Stars
Are you a fan of Japanese Role-Playing Games? Well, Atlus has your back this month with Conception 2: Children of the Seven Stars . Produced by Spike Chunsoft, a veteran in the field with games such as Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward under its belt, Conception 2 is a portable RPG that has tons of content. Some even compare it to Persona , the god of play value.
Conception 2: Children of the Seven Stars platforms: 3DS, PS Vita
April 18th - Tropico 5
Last year's SimCity release didn't go over so well. Kalypso Media has a shot at becoming king of the construction simulation genre with Tropico 5 . Early screenshots have shown that it's absolutely gorgeous and has expansive areas. As long as it incorporates the strategic gameplay the series is known for, it'll be a great choice for simulation fans.
Tropico 5 platforms: PC, PS4 (2014), Xbox 360
April 25th - Dark Souls 2 (PC)
You could argue that Dark Souls 2 is the best game so far this year. We certainly thought it was amazing on PS3 and Xbox 360. However, the best version will be on PC. It has better visuals, after all.
Dark Souls 2 platforms: PC (April 25th), PS3, Xbox 360
April 29th - The Amazing Spider-Man 2
inFamous: Second Son didn't quite do enough to satisfy my hunger for a superhero video game. Thankfully, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is almost here.
Okay, so it's a game based on a film. In the past that's usually spelled disaster. However, 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man was a pretty good game, and this year's iteration has several improvements in-store. I'm intrigued.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 platforms: 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U
April 30th - Child of Light
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, but priced like an indie title at $14.99, Child of Light has been an interesting game to follow during development.
In Child of Light you play as a young lady from 1895 Austria who falls asleep before awaking in a mythical world rich with beautifully designed backdrops. It has interesting side-scrolling combat and platforming, as well as some thoughtful multiplayer. What a wonderful way to send off April 2014.
Child of Light platforms: PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U
