If you’ve been to Bonnaroo before, there’s little likelihood that you’ll need a reminder of the sweltering, nearly inescapable heat festivalgoers must contend with for a weekend of musical bliss at the greatest festival in America (don’t believe me? Here’s six reasons why). Thankfully, there are a couple spots on-location that will offer a much-needed break from the blazing sunshine and rivers of bro-sweat flowing all around you.
Not your everyday movie theater, the Bonnaroo Cinema is a seated, air-conditioned digital cinema experience presenting an eclectic visual feast for your eyeballs. Brand-new independent features are offered to attendees before they’re released, featuring everything from mind-bending documentaries to ridiculous comedies, from cult classics to crazy live interactive happenings. The cinema is open 24 hours over Bonnaroo weekend (beginning Thursday), and features live Q&A sessions with special guest filmmakers and actors and unique cinematic performances with musicians and comedians. Check out the full Bonnaroo Cinema schedule for 2014.
The Bonnaroo Cinema experience will feature the Farrelly Brothers, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, true comedic geniuses whose fantastic run of films include There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Shallow Hal, Stuck On You (we’ll forgive them for that), Fever Pitch, The Heartbreak Kid, Hall Pass and more. The Farrelly Brothers will sit down for an in-depth conversation about their work and present two films: their classic bowling comedy Kingpin and a 20th anniversary screening of their first smash success, Dumb & Dumber.
Comedian and beloved voice on “The Simpsons” Harry Shearer will also appear for a special spotlight program, which will feature conversation and screenings of two modern classic films about the music industry: This Is Spinal Tap (30th Anniversary!) and A Mighty Wind, both of which feature collaborations with longtime comedic partners Christopher Guest and Michael McKean.
Additionally, David Wain will appear to present a screening of his new film They Came Together, starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. Saturday will also see a Remembering Harold Ramis tribute, with a 1:55 am showing of Groundhog Day. This, of course, is after the Michael Jackson sing-along dance party.
And, as always, the Cinema Tent will also be showing the NBA Finals, for sportsball fanatics to soak up some intensely high-powered air-conditioning and watch their favorite teams kick some ass.
