Well, the new The Lord of the Rings game certainly looks violent.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which is set in the The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings universe crafted by author J.R.R. Tolkien, looks to feature the same level of bloody battles featured in Peter Jackson’s cinematic adaptations of the classic fantasy novels, albeit with the violence turned up to 11.
The new gameplay trailer, which you can watch above, showcases the weaponry you can use to defend yourself with in the open world of Mordor, along with detailing the rune system. Runes are shaping up to be a huge facet of Shadow of Mordor‘s gameplay, as obtaining and combining them can result in huge stat boosts for protagonist Talion. Though the trailer makes it clear that the runes are hard to obtain, with the player having to defeat an enemy overlord and his bodyguards in order to unlock them, it seems that they will be well worth the effort in the long run.
The trailer also reveals a few more pre-order bonuses you can get from purchasing the game at selected retailers. These include the Deadly Archer Rune from Amazon, the Flame of Arnor Rune from Best Buy, the Captain of the Watch/Hidden Blade Rune from Gamestop and the Orc Slayer Rune from Steam.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is set to release on the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 7th.
