WWE RAW Recap 6/2/14: Seth Rollins Betrays The Shield

The Wyatt Family defeated The Usos

Bray Wyatt was absent from this week’s RAW following his defeat to John Cena at Payback (sigh), so Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were left to their own devices. It was weird watching an episode of RAW that didn’t feature Bray singing ‘The Whole World in His Hands’ for the umpteenth time, but it was nice to see Harper and Rowan getting some of the spotlight for once. A clean victory over The Usos saw the pair likely heading to a Tag Team Championship match at Payback.

The Shield is over

We knew it had to end at some point, but after a victory at Payback it didn’t seem like it was going to happen so soon. But it did: Seth Rollins betrayed The Shield, and arguably one of the best factions in the company’s history has come to an end.

It always seemed likely that a Shield split would happen at a PPV, so it was incredibly surprising to see it happen during an episode of RAW. It was also surprising that it was Rollins who was the first to turn his back on the Hounds of Justice, and it’ll be interesting to see where the WWE takes this angle from here. Rollins was positioned as the brains behind the outfit, so with him out of the picture, that might clear the way for Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to leave the faction, too, in order to pursue singles careers.

This is a huge curve ball for the WWE to throw, and while it doesn’t make that much sense at the moment (why would Rollins join forces with Triple H after The Shield defeated Evolution in a clean sweep? Surely it’s more ideal to be on the winners’ team?) it still makes for some exciting TV. I can’t wait to see where this goes next week.
