Oxlade-Chamberlain May Miss the World Cup 2014 After Injury

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may be sidelined for the World Cup 2014 after he suffered an injury during England’s friendly against Ecuador yesterday (June 4th).

The Arsenal winger fell to the ground after colliding with Ecuador’s Carlos Gruezo in the warm-up match, and now there are fears that the 20-year-old has suffered a ligament injury. He will undergo knee scans to see whether or not this is the case later today.

England manager Roy Hodgson said: “It would be an enormous blow to lose him. He did ever so well and looked really, really sharp.

“His knee buckled under the challenge as the player turned into him. At the moment, he doesn’t know how to feel because he doesn’t know how serious the injury is.”

The friendly, which ended in a 2-2 draw, was the first match Oxlade-Chamberlain had played since April 20th due to a groin injury he had suffered. If the scan results indicate that he has suffered a ligament injury, he could find himself missing the entirety of the World Cup 2014, with Tom Cleverley being pushed into the England squad’s starting eleven in his place. No one wants that to happen, Ox, so for the love of God get better soon.
