Sony Hints at Knack 2, Shares Interest in Reviving “Characters That People Love” for PS4

Sony have some strong IPs under their belt, but have been pushing for their first-party studios to craft new IPs to take advantage of next-gen hardware. SCE Japan Studios presented their idea of a new IP with Knack for the PS4’s launch, and apparently Sony enjoyed what they saw.

During Sony’s latest Shareholder Meeting in Japan, CEO Andrew House shared the company’s admiration for Knack, saying they “cherish the character”. Given that this was brought up during talks of the PS4’s software in development, a Knack 2 seems likely.

Knack wasn’t particularly well received, but did have some interesting ideas as well as a surprising level of difficulty. With more development time, a sequel could be something much more.

House also shared Sony’s interest in returning fan favorite characters from Sony’s lineage, stating that they want PS4 owners to enjoy “characters that people love”. There are a few characters that come to mind, most notably Crash Bandicoot. Although Naughty Dog didn’t reveal a Crash Bandicoot project at this E3, there have been plenty of hints that a next-gen iteration of the franchise will return.

If you could revive one PlayStation franchise from the PS1 or PS2 days, what would it be? Let us know in the comments below.
