The rock world was, well, rocked when news came out recently that the band The Sheepdogs is parting ways with their long-time guitarist Leot Hanson.
Apart from a Facebook post, details on the break-up are vague. “It’s with heavy heart that we announce that guitarist Leot Hanson is no longer with The Sheepdogs. Leot has been with us for eight great years, and we wish him all the best with his future ventures especially his new bar in Saskatoon, The Capitol,” they posted on their Facebook page. “We are excited to see you all at our upcoming summer shows. We will be heading to the studio this Fall and can’t wait to record our next LP and share it with everyone. This is going to be a tough transition and we appreciate everyone’s support at this time.”
The Sheepdogs, who hail from Saskatoon, got their big break when they entered a cover contest for Rolling Stone magazine in 2011, becoming the only band to grace the cover of the coveted music mag that didn’t have a recording contract… until shortly thereafter. They have released four studio albums including their most recent self-titled album, which came out in September 2012 and garnered them three Juno Awards, including Rock Album of the Year and New Group of the Year.
