Sam Smith Will Not Be Recording the Next Bond Theme

Sam Smith has laid waste to the rumours and revealed that he will NOT be recording the theme song for the next Bond movie.

A report in The Sun newspaper had stated that the ‘Stay With Me’ singer was in talks with producers to record a track for 007’s next big-screen outing, following in the footsteps of Adele, who bagged herself a huge worldwide hit with ‘Skyfall’.

However, speaking to NME Magazine, Smith has revealed that this isn’t the case, saying: “No, I have no idea what that was about and I know as much as you do. You probably know more than me; I didn’t even read the article.”

He continued: “I think it’s something everyone would love to do, but yeah, it was all news to me. I won’t say any more on it.”

Being given the opportunity to record the theme for a Bond movie is considered a huge deal in the music industry, with large sales numbers practically guaranteed for those who are requested to do so. Adele’s theme for the last Bond movie earned her an Oscar, a Bafta and a Golden Globe, and it was reported that she was given the opportunity to record a track for Skyfall‘s sequel, but that she’d declined the offer.

The next iteration in the espionage series has been given the working title of Bond 24, and will see Daniel Craig returning to the role of James Bond for the fourth time. Sam Mendes is also returning as director.
