Update: Several sources claim that Grand Theft Auto V for PS4 and Xbox One was at Gamescom, but only for private meetings with retailers. A couple sources speculate that there is mounting evidence which suggests that these two versions will be delayed to 2015. If the PC version still exists, then it will be delayed as well.
Original Story: It’s been almost a year since Grand Theft Auto V released, a game that would stun many and go on to earn one of the highest aggregated scores of all time. Although it was held in high regard, it had some issues, namely presentation related shortcomings derived from the PS3 and Xbox 360’s age. So it’s understandable that the recently announced PC version is a hot item for gamers. Unfortunately, there’s a chance, albeit a small one, that it’ll never exist.

According to Fox Weekly, John Hoffberger, chairman of Rockstar’s hired marketing firm Rantic, is doubtful as to whether or not a PC version of GTA V will hit the market. He said:
The next-gen console launch dates are still intact, but the PC game launch has been agitating for Rockstar staff.
He shared that Rockstar never intended to have a PC version of the game, but changed their mind after “high public demand”.
Grand Theft Auto IV‘s PC version arrived a full eight months after the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, and initially had a myriad of technical issues. It was well-known by PC gamers as being the most CPU dependent games of the time, which resulted in only gamers with substantial PCs being able to play it without low framerates. The PC port would go on to sell just under one million copies, although multiple million copies have been pirated since its release. This didn’t do PC ports of future GTA releases any favors.

The PS4 and Xbox One have been sold as having big benefits for developers due to their X86 architecture, a PC development standard for many years. That appears to not be enough in the case of GTA V. Rockstar set high goals for its PC version, stating, “Grand Theft Auto V for PC will take full advantage of the power of PC to deliver across-the-board enhancements including increased resolution and graphical detail, denser traffic, greater draw distances, upgraded AI, new wildlife, and advanced weather and damage effects for the ultimate open world experience.” Implementing such significant improvements to one of the largest games in history has unsurprisingly been a difficult task for Rockstar’s programmers.
For now, this is merely a rumor, but don’t be surprised if the PS4 and Xbox One versions receive a release date with no PC version mentioned.
