Courtney Love’s on-again, off-again band Hole played a little spot called Don Hill’s in New York during the intellectual vortex of Fashion Week back in 2010, and a man named J.M. Ladd was hired to film the experience. The footage was never used, but Ladd had an itch to get these recordings out to the public, and given the hilariously terrible results, we now understand why.
Ladd has posted the footage with Courtney’s vocal and guitar tracks isolated, and this is some next-level Creed Shreds cringeworthiness. “To address the most obvious, inevitable question that I will be asked…this is not fake,” Ladd says in the video’s description, “Whether you think she’s the worst or this just makes her all the more ‘punk rock’ is for you to decide. I’m merely presenting the facts as they are. Make of them what you will.”
Listen below as the batshit crazy and fame-desperate singer/songwriter, known more for absolutely nutso conspiracy theories and accusing Dave Grohl & Billy Corgan of being the worst monsters in the universe than any decent music in the past two decades, warbles and chops her way through “Celebrity Skin”.
Is it any surprise that the pill-poppin’, Twitter-ranting rock spaz sounds like garbage without a wall of sound to hide behind? She’s existed more on sensationalism, public displays of junkiehood and leeching the legacy of Rock royalty than any personal accomplishment, and has long since worn out any benefit of doubt from discerning music fans. What she’s done instead is establish herself as an erratic, cracked out star-fucker lunatic who publicly trashed her then-underage daughter and is convinced that an army of Jews (yep, Jews) and lawyers have stolen all her money.
While the stories of Courtney Love’s public meltdowns, insane conspiracy theories and various recurring drug addictions will outlast her music, the singer’s erratic, paranoid behavior has unraveled what little career and stability she had left. Her last album flopped badly, and now with talks of yet another Hole reunion, we get to go through the whole cycle again, where the PR machine convinces gel-spined writers and editors to sound the horns of feigned celebration for the return of the rock queen who was never meant for the spotlight – but remains as desperate as she ever was for it.
