Collingwood’s Dayne Beams Requests Trade

Star Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams has asked the club to trade him back to his home state of Queensland.

The 24-year-old cited family reasons in his decision to make the trade request public, however the Magpies have announced they are not willing to meet the 2012 Best and Fairest winner’s demand.

“We want Dayne to stay,” Collingwood director of football Rodney Eade said Wednesday night via the club’s official website.

“We understand his personal situation and will be working with him and his management, as we do all our players, to find an outcome that may give him more time with his family and remain a Collingwood player for 2015 and beyond.”

The Beams’ trade request follows Collingwood’s disappointing 2014 season in which the club finished with an 11-11 record and missed the finals for the first time since the premiership player debuted in round 2, 2009.

The 110-game veteran bounced back this season from an injury ravaged 2013 when he managed just eight games, amassing 27.2 disposals and goal per contest this season.

Should Collingwood submit to the trade request, Beams would end up at either Brisbane, where his brother Claye plays, or Gold Coast, both of which finished lower than Collingwood on the AFL ladder in 2014.
