Daniel Sturridge will be spending his Christmas in the US, as he is set to link up with medical specialists for the Boston Red Sox in an effort to speed up his rehabilitation process.

Sturridge has been out of action for months now, and has only played three Premier League games for Liverpool after picking up a thigh injury early in the season. He has spent time in Los Angeles in order to recover, though will now be moved to Boston in an effort to utilize the talents of the baseball team’s medical staff to hopefully set him on course for a return to football in the new year.
The collaboration with Red Sox is as a result of the baseball team’s owner, John W Henry, also being the owner of Liverpool. As Liverpool continues to struggle this season, currently languishing in the bottom half of the table in 11th place, the club will want Sturridge to reach match fitness as soon as possible. Manager Brendan Rodgers has already openly lashed out at the England national squad’s handling of the striker, after he picked up the thigh injury whilst on international duty. “We’re disappointed because we feel it was an injury which could have been prevented,” Rodgers said at the time. “I think clubs work differently at times to international teams.”
Sturridge scored 25 goals in all competitions last season, with his partnership with Liverpool’s former striker Luis Suarez being hailed as a strong factor behind the club’s success in the league. Though they failed to lift the trophy, it was an admirable year-long performance from the squad, and one which they have failed to replicate during this current season.
