The rumour mill went into overdrive yesterday when it was revealed that Carl Barat wanted Noel Gallagher to produce the upcoming third Libertines album. Now Noel has confirmed that while he, Barat and Pete Doherty have been in touch via email, the former Oasis songwriter will be unable to take them up on the offer due to conflicting schedules.

Speaking to NME, Noel said: “We’ve exchanged a few emails but unfortunately they want to do it in Thailand,” Gallagher says. “With the best will in the world, I’m on tour and I can’t do it. I would genuinely love to be involved but they’re going to do it in Thailand and I can’t be in Thailand.”
Carl Barat would have “loved” to have worked with Noel.
Noel will soon be touring with his band the High Flying Birds in order to promote their second LP Chasing Yesterday, which is why it would be difficult for him to make commitments outside of the UK. However, he did say that he’d have “loved” to have worked with Barat and Doherty on The Libertines’ comeback album, before offering some sage advice for the divisive duo, saying: “As long as they don’t overthink it, they’ll be alright.”
It seems that Barat hasn’t given up hope on Gallagher working with them, though, with him hoping that Noel has “a bit of time for the Libertines who love him so.”
If everything goes according to plan (and history tells us that in the case of the Libertines, it often doesn’t), then we should expect their third LP at some point this year. Meanwhile, Noel will be embarking upon his second tour with his band in March.
