Punters who arrived early to see Foo Fighters in Sydney got a special surprise, when supports (and headliners in their own right) Rise Against brought out ex-My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way for a cover of the Misfits classic “Astro Zombies”.
The acts brought the 1982 Misfits horror-punk track, inspired by a 1960s film of the same name, back to life at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium last night, with the former My Chemical Romance frontman taking lead vocal duties, giving his best Glenn Danzig rendition. Watch fan shot footage of the song below.
After the performance, Way took to Twitter to wax lyrical about his time on stage. “That was literally amazing,” he tweeted. “Such a magical energy in this stadium tonight. Foos are going to have one of the best shows of their lives.”
The Misfits track was far from the only cover Sydney audiences were treated to last night. Later on in the evening, Foo Fighters were joined by Rage Against The Machine and current Smashing Pumpkins drummer Brad Wilk for a cover of Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love”.
