Here’s How to Fix Battlefield: Hardline’s Xbox One Version Server Disconnect Issue

Yesterday we received our copy of Battlefield: Hardline and began playing. While the game has been largely what we expected, there’s one area where it has surprised us.

Like the Battlefield games that have come before it, Battlefield: Hardline has a pesky issue that has hindered the experience of many players. We thought EA would have learned from its meltdown with Battlefield 4, but it appears not.

This time around it’s a server disconnect issue that prevents players from joining any multiplayer games on the Xbox One version of the title.

Developer Visceral Games has acknowledged the issue by stating the following on the official Battlefield Twitter account:

We are aware of #BFHardline connectivity issues on Xbox One. We’ve got our best on it and hope to resolve soon. Thanks for your patience.

As we learned from Battlefield 4, you shouldn’t rely on EA to fix major issues in any timely manner. So we tried looking for a fix, and have one for you.

If you try to queue up for a game and find yourself repeatedly hitting error messages, close the game by heading to the Xbox Dashboard, pressing the menu button and selecting ‘Exit Game’. After a few seconds you can return to Battlefield: Hardline‘s menu and will likely be able to properly queue for a game.

While we aren’t certain what causes the issue in the first place, many speculate that the servers have been hit by a DDoS attack. If that isn’t the case, then there’s likely an issue with transitioning players from login to game lobbies.

As far as we can tell, only Xbox One players have been affected by this issue.
