The 100th anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s birth does not come until Dec. 12, but festivities honoring Ol’ Blue Eyes have already begun, ranging from the multimedia exhibition “Sinatra: An American Icon” at the New York Public Library to the recently aired HBO documentary, “Sinatra: All Or nothing at All.”
Sinatra was the male pop performer of his day, bringing elements of jazz into chamber-music compositions over which he sung in his characteristically understated, virtuosic, confessional tone. Sinatra’s voice and swagger jettisoned him from humble beginnings in Hoboken to become the king of the crooners, an icon of effortless style and untouchable taste.
