A rebooted Ghostbusters set for release in 2016 has lined-up a fresh, female cast but there will be one part of the original still in there.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Bill Murray, who starred in the original Ghostbusters films, will appear in the Paul Feig reboot over 25 years after he last graced our screens as ghostbuster Peter Venkman.
It’s unknown whether Murray will reprise the role of Venkman. In fact it’s unlikely that he’ll don the Ghostbusters uniform again, given that Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon have already been lined-up for the ghost-fighting role.
Murray had previously expressed his concerns about appearing in a new version of the film. He told David Letterman this year that he was skeptical about jumping back on board, mostly because the sequel to the original 1984 movie was a bit of a flop.
He seemed to come around to the idea though when it was announced that Paul Feig would be directing an all-female cast. He told the Toronto Star, “I’m fine with it. I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits, too.” Now it seems he’ll be more that just “going” to the movie.
He joins fellow original Ghostbuster Dan Akroyd who will make a cameo in the film. They make up a small handful of men casted in the film alongside Chris Hemsworth who will play the receptionist.
There is a little under a year until the film’s July 2016 release date, but we’re already close to jumping the gun and calling it 2016’s best cast.
