Joey Barton Issues Video Response to West Ham Fans After Transfer Falls Through

Joey Barton has issued a video response to the West Ham fans who supported (and criticised) him in the wake of the transfer rumours regarding his potential move to the club, revealing that a deal with the Hammers has fallen through.

The video, which is oddly reminiscent of the kind of footage you’d see broadcast on the news amidst a hostage situation, sees Barton sitting in a room and thanking West Ham’s fans before expressing his disappointment at not moving back to the Premier League. The footballer, who is currently a free agent after being released from Queens Park Rangers, saw his name becoming a trending topic yesterday as West Ham fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment that the midfielder was being lined up for a transfer to the club, but it seems that the overwhelming amount of criticism the potential move received led to West Ham backing down from the decision.

Nonetheless, Barton branded the club’s fans a “knowledgeable crowd” who are “passionate,” adding: “[It was] a place that despite a few having reservations, I felt that I could do really well, I could really offer something to the squad.”

Barton insisted that there are “no hard feelings” between him and the club, though it remains unclear which club he will call his new home.
