Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry Responds to Misogynistic 4chan Thread

Chvrches’ singer Lauren Mayberry has responded to a thread on 4chan regarding the band’s music video for latest single ‘Leave a Trace,’ with the thread inevitably containing an array of misogynistic and sexist comments lobbed in the direction of the frontwoman.

The post was made on the 4chan music board /mu/ (NSFW content should be expected in that link, what with this being 4chan and all), and comments including: “I thought Lauren was pure, why did she agree to dress like a slut?”, “She would be dribbling jism for weeks if I ever got my hands on her” and “She secretly loves the attention. Tonight she’s going to masturbate thinking about all of these guys giving her their cum.”

The bone of contention the posters seem to have is that Lauren wearing a short skirt and, er, having wet hair in the music video somehow makes her a hypocrite given her previous comments regarding sexism, with her saying back in 2013: “Is the casual objectification of women so commonplace that we should all just suck it up, roll over and accept defeat? I hope not. Objectification, whatever its form, is not something anyone should have to ‘just deal with’.” Apparently Lauren wearing certain kinds clothes and having a damp head nullifies her previous comments about sexism.

Lauren was made aware of the thread after it was sent to her on Twitter, with her issuing the following response:

If you want to see the thoroughly innocuous video that somehow managed to offend the kind of people who have no problem with freely calling a woman a slut because her dress doesn’t flow down to her ankles, then check it out below:
