Every year we see major and minor improvements made to FIFA‘s various game modes, but the one component of the game that remains a consistently sub-par experience is its Career mode. EA Sports have now revealed more about the changes they’ve made to the game’s Career in FIFA 16, and suffice to say it looks like we should expect to be disappointed.
While EA brands the slight improvements made to the mode “innovations,” in actuality they merely amount to a handful of new additions including the ability to embark on a pre-season tournament in order to obtain extra cash for your club, run player training drills to enhance your squad and sign free agents outside of the transfer window. According to EA the mode’s commentary will now be a bit more dynamic, with commentators mentioning specific facts about your season (i.e. if you have an impressive defensive record, they’ll make a note of it) and discussing transfer bids and other such news stories.
Unfortunately, it looks like the mode will still suffer from the same old monotony of FIFA‘s past, with EA continuing to put the majority of its focus upon its money-making Ultimate Team mode. That’s all well and good, but it seems that for those who will spend the majority of their time playing the game offline, FIFA 16 won’t be as much of an upgrade outside of the obligatory changes to its gameplay.

Hopefully one year EA really puts some time and effort into making its Career mode more than just a series of matches permeated by a transfer window every now and again, and actually seeks to emulate the excitement of a typical football season. Until then, looks like we’re left to do little more than carry a League Two team through to the Premier League with little more than the odd training session to add variety into the proceedings.
