Earlier this year, Donald Trump stepped down as host of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice to run for President. Shortly thereafter, Trump made several controversial statements about illegal immigrants which led NBC to cut all ties with The Donald.
Today, NBC announced a new host for Celebrity Apprentice: Arnold Schwarzenegger! Schwarzenegger’s first season on Celebrity Apprentice will run during NBC’s 2016/2017 TV schedule.
Schwarzenegger is an iconic movie star who headlined The Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, True Lies, and numerous other action and comedy movies. Schwarzenegger is also the former Governor of California, and as NBC noted in the announcement, he managed “more than 300,000 state employees and a state budget in the hundreds of billions. He has [also] successfully invested in both real estate and sports franchises.”
Trump took the announcement in stride and even voiced his support for Schwarzenegger.
Congrats to my friend @Schwarzenegger who is doing next season’s Celebrity Apprentice. He’ll be great & will raise lots of $ for charity.

Schwarzenegger’s new TV project comes at time when his box office clout has clearly faded. Terminator Genisys was not the blockbuster that it was expected to be and only the overseas box office may propel the franchise to another sequel.
