Earlier this week, reports emerged that Jenna Coleman will leave Doctor Who after nearly two and a half seasons on the show. Today, Coleman confirmed the rumors during an appearance on BBC Radio 1.
“I have left the TARDIS — it’s happened,” said Coleman. “I’ve filmed my last scenes.”
“It’s been in the works for a very long time,” continued Coleman. “Steven [Moffat] and I sat down a year and a half ago and tried to work out the best place to do it and tell a really good story. We’re not going to give any details but it will happen at some point this season… We worked out a really good story arc out so hopefully people will love it.”
Coleman made her debut on Doctor Who in the seventh season premiere back in September 2012. Her first official appearance as Clara Oswald came in the 2012 Doctor Who Christmas special. While Coleman declined to say when her last episode of the series will air, she is reportedly not in the 2015 Doctor Who Christmas special that recently began filming.

During her radio appearance, Coleman also confirmed that she will be portraying Queen Victoria in an ambitious new miniseries for ITV.
“[Queen Victoria] is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can’t wait to tell her story,” related Coleman.
Doctor Who Season 9 will premiere tomorrow, September 19 on BBC One and BBC America.
