Roy Hodgson has announced that Danny Ings and Dele Alli will be called up to England’s senior squad for the very first time in both players’ careers.
Liverpool’s Ings and Tottenham’s Alli, who debuted for England’s Under-21s only last month, will join the rest of the England squad for the national team’s final two Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania.
A notable absence from the squad is Jack Grealish, who recently announced that he had chosen to play for England over Republic of Ireland, the national squad in which he earned a Player of the Year trophy. Despite it being reported that Hodgson had greatly influenced Grealish’s decision, the coach has not picked him for the qualifiers.
Tottenham’s Dele Alli only recently made his debut for England’s Under-21 squad.
Daniel Sturridge has also not been called up by Hodgson, though given the Liverpool striker has only recently returned from a lengthy injury, this is perhaps due to Hodgson not wanting to put any added strain on him.
