Fans Launch Campaign to get Eagles of Death Metal to UK Number One Following Paris Attacks

Fans have launched a campaign to get Eagles of Death Metal to UK number one following the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday.

The band’s gig at the Bataclan theatre saw ISIS terrorists storm the building, shooting and killing 87 civilians including the band’s merchandise manager. A Facebook page titled ‘Eagles Of Death Metal For No.1‘ has now been set up on Facebook by fans of the band, asking fans to help push their cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Save A Prayer’ to the top spot, with the page’s description reading: “Let’s get the Eagles Of Death Metal to the UK No.1 THIS WEEK to show our solidarity against terrorism and support for peace

“For those unaware, EODM and their fans were the band caught up in the horrific atrocities in Paris this week. We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of ‘Save A Prayer’ to the UK No.1 spot as a show of support to the band and all of those affected.

“For the record no we aren’t associated with the band or their record company, we’re just fans of them that feel happy to be alive as some of our fellow EODM fans are tragically not now.

“Royalties we assume would go to Duran Duran as they wrote the song but that’s not the point of this campaign. This is not for profit or financial gain, just to make a strong statement.”

While the campaign seems a little misguided (it is comparable with similar UK campaigns that are routinely orchestrated around the Christmas period in order to prevent the X Factor winner from reaching the top spot), if the profits made from sales of the single go to charities providing aid to Paris following these attacks, then some good could come of this campaign. However, the creators of the Facebook page have stated that they have not been in contact with the band regarding the campaign, so it is uncertain if the money they receive through it would go to a good cause.

The track is currently number one on both the iTunes and Amazon rock chart.
