Gary Neville Appointed Head Coach of Valencia

Gary Neville has been appointed head coach of Valencia until the end of this season, it has been confirmed.

The former Manchester United player-turned-pundit will sign a contract with the Spanish club until June 30th 2016, with the former defender stepping down from his position on the Sky Sports broadcasting team as a result.

Speaking of his new role, Neville said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity with Valencia.

“Valencia are a huge football club of immense standing – and I know from my time as a player the passion and dedication of the Valencia fans.”

Neville will join his brother Phil, who has been the caretaker manager of the club since July and who will now assume the role of assistant manager.

England coach Roy Hodgson has stated that Neville’s appointment as Valencia manager will not affect his role within the national squad, saying: “As far as I’m concerned, this will be an extra string to his bow and the experience he will gain working in the Spanish league can only be beneficial to our work together with the England team.

“Gary’s commitment to the FA’s preparations for Euro 2016 will not be in any way affected by the fact that he will be coaching abroad during the next five months.”
