It’s a strange time for American politics, as we have several megalomaniac and power hungry individuals running to become the next President of the United States. If only there was some escapist fantasy about a President who had the best interests of the nation at heart.
Well, The West Wing is over, people! Instead, we’ve got President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), a man who is less crazy than the entire 2016 Presidential field. In the first three seasons of Netflix’s original series, House of Cards, Underwood has also proven to be one of the most ruthless fictional Presidents in Hollywood’s history. Let’s just say that “antihero” doesn’t cover the lengths that Underwood will go to achieve his goals.
But that’s just the face that we see. Netflix’s first promo video for House of Cards Season 4 is a pitch perfect campaign ad for President Underwood that paints him as the right choice in the next election.
If you recall, Underwood wasn’t actually elected to high office. He was a replacement Vice President, and he helped arrange the scandal that convinced his predecessor, President Garrett Walker (Michel Gill) to resign in disgrace.
There is one fly in the ointment of Underwood’s current political fortunes: his wife, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright). She may go through with her threat to leave Underwood, but that would actually be more dangerous for her. After all, Underwood has developed a talent for “removing” his problems…and Claire should probably stay out of train stations.
Netflix will premiere every episode of House of Cards Season 4 on March 4, 2016.
