There has been plenty of talk surrounding an open letter allegedly sent from UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor to the the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr. The letter, sent via Facebook, reportedly sees the MMA fighter referring to Mayweather as a “little bitch” in a message that also criticises how Mayweather “picks and chooses his fights out of fear”. However, it has now been confirmed that the letter is a fake.
A screenshot of the message was circulated on social media yesterday, with some news outlets also picking it up and suggesting that the Irish UFC star had called out boxing’s WBC and WBA welterweight and light middleweight champion. But the message had actually been sent by a fake Facebook account posing as McGregor, which is not in any way affiliated with McGregor himself.
You can read the message below:
Though the message is fake, it was created in reference to real comments made by Mayweather, who criticised the overwhelming praise McGregor receives in an interview with FightHype, saying: “They say he talks a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I’m cocky and arrogant. So biased! Like I said before, all I’m saying is this: I ain’t racist at all, but I’m telling you racism still exists.”
But despite the post having been outed as a fake, #SillyFloyd has started to trend on Twitter as a number of people have agreed with the fake McGregor account. McGregor hasn’t responded to the existence of the fake open letter.
