The release of No Man’s Sky has been delayed, with no new release date having been set.
A report from Kotaku claims that a reliable source has informed them the game will no longer meet its June 21st release date, with retail stores being told to cover up this date on all promotional material with a “Coming Soon” sticker. A notice allegedly sent out to GameStop employees reads: “The Release Date for No Man’s Sky has changed since the provided posters were printed. Please use a coming soon pop-on to cover up the date and communicate as needed to your guest about the change of release.”
According to this source, the game could be pushed back into July or August, though developer Hello Games has yet to reveal exactly when its space exploration game will officially launch. A delay occurring less than a month away from its scheduled release date is troubling news for any game, though considering the immense scale of No Man’s Sky‘s procedurally generated universe and the relatively small size of the independent development team working on it, this might not be the case.
No Man’s Sky was first unveiled during the VGX Awards 2013, with it swiftly being hailed as one of the most exciting upcoming games. After a successful showing at E3 2014, news pertaining to it became few and far between, before it reappeared at E3 2015, with Hello Games confirming its release date in March 2016. Its price point was also announced, with it set to retail for $60.
Hopefully No Man’s Sky won’t be pushed too far back into the year, though if Hello Games needs more time to polish their game – which we branded one of our most anticipated new releases of the entire year – then we’ll happily wait as long as it takes for them to do so.
