Canada AM Is Suddenly Cancelled By Network Execs

Morning fans of Canada AM were shocked to find out yesterday that after more than 40 years of being on the air, the national morning show will be going off the air after this week.

According to reports, hosts Beverly Thomson and Marci Ien will continue to work with Bell Media while beloved weatherman Jeff Hutcheson will retire.

“I must say, it was a bit surreal,” said Seamus O’Regan, a former co-host of the show who is now the member of parliament for St. John’s South – he will be returning to his roots at Canada AM for the final taping on Friday. “There is certainly shock that we are losing a very important national voice for news.”

In the same news article, it was cited that CTV execs said a new show would soon be taking its place.

Canada AM first aired in 1972 and has been on for 43 seasons.

“As the television landscape continues to evolve, so too must our programming. We look forward to building upon the success of Canada AM as we move forward,” said Randy Lennox, president of entertainment production and broadcasting at Bell Media, in a statement (The Canadian Press).
