Man Busted for Fake Kidnapping After Mom Won’t Pay His Ransom

We’re not sure which part of this story is more embarrassing for Zachery Logsdon — the fact that his mother wouldn’t pay the ransom for for his safe return, or that he thinks his life is only worth $200.

According to Huffington Post, the 25-year-old Knoxville man sent several text messages to his mom saying that his drug dealer was going to kill him if she didn’t fork over $200. She repeatedly asked her son if he was telling the truth, and each time, he swore that he was indeed being held hostage.

But she still refused to pay the ransom because – shocker – Logsdon had pulled this scam before in an effort to get drug money from her. She instead called 911, and authorities set up a meeting place to drop off the money.

Logsdon showed up alone, and when he saw investigators waiting for him, he ran. He was eventually caught and booked on charges of filing a false report and resisting arrest.

Bail was set at $3,500, but no word yet as to whether or not he called his mom and tried duping her into paying for that as well.
