What’s the worst-kept secret in Hollywood after Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger appearing in The Expendables 2? That’s easy: it’s Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme appearing in The Expendables 2. Well, it’s a “secret” no more: Sylvester Stallone just confirmed that they’re on board through Entertainment Weekly. But that’s not all: previously-rumored co-star John Travolta and newly-rumored co-star Nicolas Cage are also possibly joining the fun as well. And maybe even Michael Biehn and Michael Pare.
Nice.
Quoth the Stallone: “We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one.”
And also: “We’ve got Chuck Norris and I think Nic Cage […] We’re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them.”
The weird thing is that the movie is rapidly gearing up for production but Stallone is still actively casting the bigger parts in the film, but we guess given the size of the cast it really amounts to everyone’s availability. Stallone also hints in Entertainment Weekly that he’s looking for some younger blood as well. As long as nobody suggests Taylor Lautner or anything.
That said, we’re also disappointed that The Expendables 2 appears to remain a boy’s club, with female action stars like Geena Davis, Cynthia Rothrock, Pam Grier, Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton and Michelle Yeoh apparently not being considered. Pity. Maybe they should get their own spin-off.
CraveOnline will be back with more Expendables 2 news if we can expend the energy.
