Last month, “Strike Back” launched a new round of original programming for Cinemax in a co-production deal with the British network Sky. And in the wake of that successful partnership, Cinemax has signed on to co-produce a second British series in the same genre.
According to Deadline, former “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star Melissa George has been signed to star in “Nemesis,” a spy thriller being produced by the BBC and Cinemax. George will play a highly skilled operative working for an elite private intelligence firm who faces an attack on her life that may have been planned by someone on her own team. After returning to duty, her character must find a way to do her job without being able to know who she can trust.
George previously had an extended stint on “Alias” as a duplicitous double agent, as well as memorable turns in “30 Days of Night” (pictured above), “The Amityville Horror,” “Mulholland Drive,” “In Treatment,” “Turistas” and the upcoming A&E adaptation of Stephen King’s “Bag of Bones” opposite former James Bond, Pierce Brosnan.
“Nemesis” was created by Frank Spotnitz, a writer best known for his extensive work on “The X-Files,” as well as “Millennium,” “Harsh Realm,” “The Lone Gunmen,” “Robbery Homicide Division” and the reimagined “Night Stalker” TV series in 2005. Spotnitz is currently based in London and he recently wrote and produced several episodes of “Strike Back.”
“Nemesis” will begin production on its eight episode first season this fall in Europe and North Africa for a likely 2012 debut on Cinemax and the BBC.
