It’s finally happening. Oh, but we’ve heard that before, haven’t we? Fortunately, unlike the fourth Indiana Jones movie or the Star Wars prequels, it’s okay if this one is dumb, because it’s Dumb and Dumber 2, the long-awaited (and just as long-rumored) followup to the Farrelly Brothers’ beloved 1994 comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, and it’s going into production later this year.
Both Carrey and Daniels are set to return for the sequel, as are the film’s original directors, according to Coming Soon. As previously reported, the script is being written by Sex Drive‘s Sean Anders and John Morris, although the plot details are being kept under wraps. Presumably it’s quite dumb, though. Regarding the production plans, co-director Peter Farrelly had this to say at the press junket for the duo’s latest release, The Three Stooges:
“We’re getting set to shoot Dumb and Dumber 2 in September […] It’s the first sequel we’ve ever done and we’ve got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back.”
Farrelly goes on to specify that the prequel, 2003’s Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, was made without their involvement, so he doesn’t think it counts.
Jim Carrey’s been due for a big comeback for a while now, particularly to broad comedy, and we’ll be glad to have him back.
CraveOnline will be back with more Dumb and Dumber 2 news after we order the Soup du Jour.
