Earlier this year, Ronald D. Moore set up a new series called “Helix” at Syfy. And it won’t be Moore’s only TV series in the near future.
Deadline is reporting that STARZ has picked up a TV adaptation of “Outlander,” based upon Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling novel series. “Outlander” follows Claire Randall, a married nurse who served in World War II as she finds herself mysteriously transported from 1945 to the Scottish Highlands in 1743, where she meets a young Scottish warrior named Jamie. To ensure her own safety, Claire eventually marries Jamie and she finds herself torn between her new husband and the man she left behind in the future.
Moore is serving as the showrunner and executive producer of “Outlander,” as he reunites with his fellow “Star Trek” veteran, Ira Behr in addition to screenwriters Toni Graphia, Matt Roberts and Anne Kenney. Sony TV will produce “Outlander” for STARZ, but the length of the first season and projected premiere date have not been officially announced yet.
In addition to his stints on both “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” Moore is best known for shepherding the “Battlestar Galactica” reboot for Syfy as well as the prequel series “Caprica.” Moore has also worked on a number of cult favorite shows like “Carnivale” and “Roswell.”
