For his upcoming TNT original series, “Lost Angels,” Frank Darabont was reportedly interested in getting Thomas Jane to play the infamous mobster, Bugsy Siegel. However, a different actor has walked away with the role.
Deadline is reporting that Ed Burns has been cast as Siegel in “Lost Angels;” which will be a recurring role on the series. The historical Siegel was a top mob boss in Los Angeles during the late ‘30s and early 1940s.
Burns has previously guest starred on “Will & Grace” and “Entourage,” but he is best known for appearing in Saving Private Ryan, A Sound of Thunder, Alex Cross and Man on a Ledge as well as writing and directing The Brothers McMullen, Sidewalks of New York and The Fitzgerald Family Christmas.
“Lost Angels” has recently added several performers, including Jeremy Luke as Siegel’s chief lieutenant, Mickey Cohen, Robert Knepper as a low level mobster named Sid Rothman and Ernie Hudson as Bunny, another mobster who reports to Siegel.
Former “Walking Dead” co-star Jon Bernthal leads “Lost Angels” as Joe Teague, a police officer who finds himself caught in the middle of the war between Mickey Cohen and LAPD Chief William Parker (Neal McDonough). Milo Ventimiglia, Jeffrey DeMunn and Alexa Davalos co-star, with Jeremy Strong, Pihla Viitala, Ron Rifkin and John Pollono also starring in the series.
A premiere date for “Lost Angels” has not been announced, but it is expected to roll out its six episode first season before the end of 2013.
