You know your MMA-loving buddy who keeps telling you boxing is dead? Well, you should show him this article. It seems tickets for Floyd Mayweather’s next bout with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez September 14 at the MGM Grand sold out in less than 24 hours.
Crave’s RingTV website spoke with the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions:
“The demand for tickets, even before they went on sale, was unprecedented,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. “This is the fight the world wanted, we gave it to the fans, and they responded. September 14 will be the biggest night boxing has seen in years. We urge fans to get their closed-circuit tickets before they sell out as well.”
Schaefer said he expects Mayweather-Alvarez to generate at least $18,647,000 in tickets sales, eclipsing the mark of $18,419,200 by Mayweather’s fight with Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.
