HBO Renews ‘True Blood’ For Season 7

Next summer, the vamps from “True Blood” will be returning once again.

HBO has officially renewed “True Blood” for a seventh season, with Brian Buckner staying on for his second season as showrunner following the departure of series creator, Alan Ball. The new season of “True Blood” will premiere in Summer 2014, presumably with 12 new episodes. The sixth season was cut down to ten episodes due to the maternity leave of series star, Anna Paquin.

“True Blood” is based upon Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mystery novels featuring Sookie Stackhouse and her supernatural (but mostly vampires) romantic suitors. The ratings for the sixth season of “True Blood” are slightly down from the fifth season, but it remains one of HBO’s most popular programs across all platforms.

“Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV,” said HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo in a statement. “‘True Blood’ remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers.”

The sixth season of “True Blood” is currently running on Sunday nights on HBO.
