SQUIB: a : a short humorous or satiric writing or speech; b : a short news item. (Merriam-Webster)
This Tech Squib asks how many times do you hear your friends complain about their phones being dead? If it’s not as often as us, maybe our friends are just whiny pains in the collective arse.
Still, with our smartphones constantly in gear and always online, that battery life is an issue. The folks over at New Trent saw that problem coming and dedicated a chunk of their product line to keeping mobile devices juiced.
We had a chance to try out a few of New Trent’s empowering gadgets to see how the family got along.
The New Trent Easypak is intended for iPad charging, but it can juice anything else along the way. It can charge 3 devices at once and is compatible with Apple, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG, Nokia, Blackberry and Sony.
The iCarrier Heavy Duty Dual charger has two outlets and can amp up a cell phone up to 6 times and runs with all of the models listed above.
All of the above worked well with all tablets, iPhones and smartphones. The only difficulty encountered with any of the New Trent items was the Travelpak Battery Charger.
The beefiest of the New Trent chargers, the Travelpak charges in any wall outlet and discharges via dual AC-Adapter USB Charge Ports. Its Ambient LED light while charging doubles as an LED night light.
Unfortunately, our test unit would take a full charge but would seem to deactivate in mid charge when not plugged into the wall. In other words, when plugged into an outlet, it charged fine. But, it’s designed to serve as a power source on the move. This one didn’t come through in the clutch.
Otherwise, we can report that every New Trent device tested served perfectly and proved easy to use.
