Last season on “Supernatural,” all of the angels were forced out of Heaven. When the story picks up again this October, at least one of the angels will have a familiar face to sci-fi fans.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Tahmoh Penikett has been cast as Ezekiel, “a dignified warrior angel injured in the fall.” Penikett will make his first appearance as Ezekiel during the ninth season premiere of “Supernatural.”
Among genre fans, Penikett as Karl “Helo” Agathon on “Battlestar Galactica” and for his two season stint as Paul Ballard on “Dollhouse.” Penikett has previously appeared in “Smallville,” “Riverworld,” “Human Target,” “Mortal Kombat: Legacy,” “The Killing,” “Haven” and “Castle.” Penikett also made a recent guest appearance on “Arrow” and recurred on “Continuum.”
In the EW report, “Supernatural” showrunner, Jeremy Carver is quoted as saying that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) will encounter angels who have “lots of different agendas… The angels are] lost, scared, and vengeful, and I think [the storyline] is lending itself to lots of exciting and wonderful character moments for all of our characters to be dealing with. A world of fallen angels is a dirty, bloody, scary and in some ways very human world. We’re very excited to explore that.”
“Supernatural” returns to the CW on Tuesday, October 8.
