“SCTV” star Andrea Martin is set to star in the new Canadian comedy “Working the Engels,” which will air on Global.
A former member of Toronto Second City and a cast member of the infamous homegrown comedy “SCTV” in the 70s and 80s, for which she won two Primetime Emmys, Martin has been flying under the radar in recent years, appearing in a number of children’s shows as well as writing.
In “Working the Engels,” Martin will play matriarch Celia, described as a woman “who mixes both momma bear motherly love and myopic self-involvement.”
The series follows a family that takes over their father’s storefront law firm following his death – even though only one of them is a lawyer. According to a Global News article, Martin will play matriarch Celia, described as a woman “who mixes both momma bear motherly love and myopic self-involvement.” She told the newspaper,“I am so looking forward to shooting another TV series in Canada and working with Katie and Jane Ford – I have been an admirer of theirs for years. And to get to stay in Toronto for an extended period is icing on the cake. I couldn’t feel luckier or more excited. It’s going to be a great show and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
“Working the Engels” will begin production on the first 12 episodes in Toronto this fall.
