Considering that Call of Duty has become one of the most well-known names in the gaming realm, there is no wondering why Activision sets out to produce more perfected versions of the games that continually sell tens of millions of copies. So, with Call of Duty: Ghosts about to release, and the mass excitement surrounding it, alongside the immense increase in preorders, we can’t help but wonder what makes us keep coming back.
Anything is debatable, but there are clear winners when it comes to some of the greatest, and most satisfying moments that occur in the COD world which have the innate ability to draw us back every time.
Now, look in the gallery below :
Call of Duty's Great Moments are What Keep Us Coming Back
Sticking it to the enemy
There is something rather magical about sticking a piece of Semtex to an opposing player, especially when they aren’t expecting it. What is even better though is when you beam someone in the back of the head as they turn a corner to regroup with their friends, and whoops…. sorry guys you just got owned. Stickies give the game that unpredictable factor as previously people could just run away from the frags if one hit next to them or bounced by.
Just remember, if you get stuck with a piece of Semtex, don’t run, you’ll only die tired.
Time to bury the hatchet
Although that is an old adage used to signify peace, and in some cultures war, Call of Duty has brought it to a whole new level. In the newer titles of the franchise tomahawks were introduced, and they took that old phrase a bit literally, especially with the game mode, ‘Sticks and Stones’. For anyone that never played this mode, it was havoc. Just imagine a group of six people running around in a ballistic manner beating the heck out of each other with only crossbows, ballistics, combat knives, and tomahawks which reset a players score when killed by it. It is one of the craziest styles of play, but when you bury the tomahawk into someone right before they get the final kill, it is like watching a finale with fireworks.
Outside that game mode, it is another one of those fantastic tools that gets hurled through the air at the beginning of a battle in hopes that it will sink itself into some ones head for first blood. And even after that, it is quite useful in irritating the enemy, so be sure to play around with one if for some horrid reason you haven’t.
What just happened?!
We've all had that moment when we've been running through a map, kill an enemy, only to suddenly die from the same person. Death from the grave is one of those aspects that you love and despise all at the same time. It's an issue of game balance that provides some of the quickest retaliations known to man. One minute you hear someone calling you a newb, the next he's screaming on the mic saying you're cheap.
Despite the bipolar relationship everyone has with this, you must admit that it is rather nice knowing that the person that just knifed you has a surprise waiting for them. Watch your back.
Make it count
In every installment of the Call of Duty franchise, there has been at least one guaranteed sniper level in the campaign. A level that forces us all to stop the ballistic spray and pray method, and do it right. These missions come along and you think, "damn this is going to take way too long, ain’t nobody got time for this". Low and behold, the moment you try running and gunning (especially on veteran) you get smashed into the dirt so fast that you will never know what in the world hit you in the face. These missions require the finesse and dedication to make every single shot count, with little to no mistakes. Because when you finally get to the end of the level, that final little sprint they throw at the end makes it feel like you are about to win a triathlon after everything they put you through. Besides who doesn’t love shooting the enemy in the head, watching the blood spray, and screaming ‘boom headshot’.
If you're more of a multiplayer head, then you know what it's like to go up against a professional sniper. You've always wanted to become one but don't have the patience. All you need is a smoke grenade, right?
Brain munchers
Zombie mode is one of those things that belong on this list, simply because it has become one of the most addictive co-op game modes in gaming. It all started with World at War 's Nazi Zombies. How awesome was that when you were playing and the next thing you knew not only were you killing people from the psychotic Nazi regime, but you were blasting zombie heads off as well. Even though it is only available on the versions of COD that Treyarch produced, it is still one of the things the series is most known for.
Hey, at least this time around we'll have aliens to obliterate .
